Cook Mode: step-by-step cooking
Updated 2026-07-06

Cook Mode turns a saved recipe into a focused, step-by-step guide, so you are not scrolling up and down a full recipe while your hands are covered in flour. It is a Tradish Pro feature.

Starting a cook

Open any recipe and tap Start Cooking. That launches Cook Mode.

The prep screen

Before you turn on the stove, Cook Mode shows a prep screen. It lists every ingredient with a checkbox, so you can gather and measure as you go and see at a glance what is still on the counter.

There is also a servings multiplier here. Scale the servings up or down and every ingredient quantity updates live, so you can cook for two or for a crowd without doing the math. For more, see Scaling a recipe's servings.

When your prep is done, tap Begin to start cooking.

The step screen

Now Cook Mode shows one step at a time. You will see:

  • The current step, large and easy to read from across the kitchen.
  • A progress indicator that tells you where you are, like step 3 of 8.
  • Previous and next controls to move through the recipe at your own pace.

Because only the current step is on screen, you always know exactly what to do next.

Timers

Any step that needs one can have an optional timer. When a step has a timer, you can:

  • Start it when you begin that step.
  • Pause it if you need a moment.
  • Reset it to the original time.
  • Add a minute when something needs a little longer.

The timer keeps running while you keep cooking, so you can move ahead and still hear when it is done.

The done screen

When you reach the end, Cook Mode shows a done screen where you can save a cook log entry for what you just made. You can add:

  • A star rating from 1 to 5.
  • A photo of the finished dish.
  • Notes for next time, like what you changed or what to buy more of.

Those entries build up your history over time. See Your Cook Log for how to browse and filter them.

Cooking more than one thing

Cook Mode can run several recipes at once, so a full meal comes together without anything burning. See Cooking more than one recipe at once.
